Seller Description
If you are thinking about buying a small property away from the city, either as a weekender or as a permanent home, then of many books I have read on the subject, I would put at the top of my recommended list A Small Place in the Country by Toni Mackenzie. The West Australian Mrs Mackenzie has written a most useful book, the purpose of which is to teach the born city-dweller how to cope with living in the countryside. What impresses particularly is the sheer efficiency of the thing; the range of subject matter and the mass of significant detail presented in a way that makes pleasant reading... Sydney Morning Herald It's not a bucolic guide to an alternative lifestyle, but a down to earth practical book... a good companion to those already on the land, an asset to a city girl about to marry a country boy, a valuable aid to a retiring couple wanting to escape to a few hectares and do something with them, and a great help to weekend farmers. Parade ... it is a cautionary but encouraging tale and a book no prospective back-to-the-lander can afford to be without. Fresh air blows through the book. It is also free of twee-ness for which one cannot thank Mrs Mackenzie enough. Cleo
